Jennifer Hudson Takes Center Stage In ‘Black Nativity’ Traile

Jennifer Hudson Takes Center Stage In ‘Black Nativity’ Traile, Jennifer Hudson will be singing in the new movie Black Nativity.

The actress stars alongside Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Tyrese Gibson, Mary J Blige and Nasir Jones in the “musical event of the holiday season” based on the play by Langston Hughes.

Hughes wrote Black Nativity, a retelling of the classic nativity story, in the 1960s. The show featured an all-black cast and classic Christmas carols performed in a gospel style. The new movie will give Black Nativity another facelift as the songs are once again revamped to fit a modern audience.

In the trailer, Jennifer Hudson sings a modern version of “Silent Night.”

Here’s the synopsis from IMDB: “A street-wise teen from Baltimore, raised by a single mother, travels to New York City to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged relatives and embarks on a surprising and inspirational journey.”

For Hudson, this will be the first movie to feature her vocal work since she made her acting debut in the 2006 movie Dreamgirls. Hudson won an Oscar for her performance in Dreamgirls which also won an award for best sound mixing.

It’s a little too early to tell if Black Nativity will get any attention from the Academy but the movie does boast two Oscar winners with Hudson and Forest Whitaker.
