Surfer and whale: 'Flick of tail' knocks surfer unconscious

Surfer and whale: 'Flick of tail' knocks surfer unconscious, A surfer and a whale met in the ocean waters near Australia but what could have been a super cool experience turned into something frightening.

The surfer, a 38-year-old doctor named Bishan Rajapakse, was catching waves when he got a little too close to the large mammal. On July 8, Huffington Post posted a video of the incident.

Rajapakse was surfing with a group when the whale swam up. The surfers paddled near the humpback whale -- estimated to be at least 40 feet long -- to get a better look when the large creature struck Rajapakse with its tail," Huffington Post reported.

The surfer and whale story is making its rounds on the internet this week -- but Rajapakse was okay after the incident. In the video you can see swimmers and surfers very close to the whale and according to onlookers, no one really expected the whale to do what it did. Even Rajapakse said that he didn't expect it -- but he has a great attitude toward the whole thing.

Rajapakse talked with the media about the whale and how he talked to it like a dog. Even when he was knocked out by the massive tail of the animal he took it as the whale saying "hi" or "giving a high five." It does not sound like he felt threatened or intentionally hurt in any way. Needless to say he will be surfing again.

Surfers and whales meet now and again in the ocean but generally things like this don't happen. Rajapakse is lucky he was not seriously injured.
