Boston strong concert

Boston strong concert, Big-name bands rocked out at Boston’s TD Garden Thursday night to benefit victims of the marathon bombing.

Many who couldn’t get their hands on highly sought-after tickets were encouraged to watch on a livestream, but when over 500,000 people tried to log on at once there were connection issues and long pauses.
“It looked like something that we’ve seen before where there’s a really big crowd, sometimes streams can struggle,” said Marc Ruskin, an entrepreneur.

That’s before Marc Ruskin stepped in. The Needham entrepreneur is the president of FastHockey.com, a website that specializes in streaming amateur hockey games.

A co-worker told Ruskin about the problem and he said he contacted concert organizers. They worked with a Cambridge company to divert traffic to clear the issue.

“We see events where a half million or three quarters of a million viewers, and those things start to happen on certain networks, so what you have to do is offload that traffic onto other networks,” said Ruskin.

Live Nation called the event “an extreme success”. They said the glitch was the result of too many people trying to log on at once. All the issues were resolved 1.5 hours into the concert, which gave people plenty of time to catch a majority of the 5-hour show. Organizers said millions watched worldwide.
Ruskin said he was just happy to help out.

“The marathon bombing hit us pretty close here -- we’re a Boston-based company. Born and raised here. So I just thought, wouldn’t it be neat knowing what our technology can do,” said Ruskin.
Organizers said they’re hoping to release the amount of money the concert raised by next week.
