The Destiny’s Child founding member’s latest tune is reportedly about Beyonce. Emotions must have been particularly high during Sunday’s show; about halfway through the song, Rowland suddenly bursts into tears.
“Dirty Laundry,” which also touches on other troublesome aspects of Kelly Rowland’s life, deals with the singer’s jealousy over Beyonce’s worldwide success. Although she tries to hold it together during the song, Rowland eventually breaks down around the four-minute mark. A video of the performance is included below.
“Doing this song for me was so therapeutic,” the singer told those in attendance at Sunday’s show minutes before launching into “Dirty Laundry.”
The new song started making the round after popping up on Soundcloud a few weeks ago. It’s clear from the lyrics that Kelly Rowland was working through some stuff when she put pen to paper.
“When my sister was on stage, Killing it like a motherf*****, I was in a rage, Feeling like a motherf*****,” she sings at one point during the tune.
Rowland became so overwhelmed by emotion during the recent performance that she stopped in the middle of the song to cry. As she sits hunched over the stool, the audience begins cheering and chanting her name. Within moments she’s composed and back in action.
