Ashley Barker, a first grade teacher at Laurel Elementary School, told school officials that she along with her father were sick and dying.
The school allowed Barker to take days off and leave early on numerous occasions because they believed her story.
The district has since fired Barker after finding out that her story was a lie.
When officials confronted Barker, she allegedly admitted that neither her nor her father was sick and that she was at home when she said she was at the doctors or hospital.
"Wow. That's kind of scary," parent Ralie Ortiz said. "Because if she lies about that, she can lie about anything."
School officials said that Barker sent 120 emails to the principal stating she was very sick and her father was terminally ill, Bay News 9 is reporting.
Barker will have a hearing to fight the termination.
