It started last year at the Hot 97 Summer Jam when DJ Peter Rosenberg dissed the song on stage.
“I know there are some chicks in here waiting to sing along with ‘Starships’ later,” he said to the crowd. “I’m not talking to y’all now. F— that bulls—. I’m here to talk about real hip-hop s—.”
The remarks caused Minaj to pull out of her appearance at the concert where she was scheduled as the headliner. Lil Wayne also pulled out the entire Young Money crew.
On Monday, Nicki returned to the station and addressed the feud with Rosenberg.
“It’s water under the bridge … I mean it’s so long ago. I can’t even act like I care anymore, but I appreciate you guys having me,” Minaj in an appearance ahead of this year’s Summer Jam. “In hindsight … I should’ve just did the show.”
Though the rapper had her regrets about skipping Summer Jam 2012, it seems clear that Minaj hasn’t completely settled her feud with the Hot 97 DJ.
“I never found you funny,”she said to Rosenberg. “I never found you entertaining. I never found you smart. I just found you annoying. To me, you don’t have enough of a resume to make those comments.”
Rosenberg still tried to bury the hatchet, saying that “Starships” played at his wedding and adding that he thought she could become the “greatest female MC.” Minaj met his remarks with silence however.
The feud between Minaj and Hot 97 had intensified last year when Nicki called into Funkmaster Flex’s radio show to explain why she pulled out. Rosenberg defended himself by saying he was just giving his opinion, not attacking Minaj.
“I need it be clear: I gave an opinion on a song,” he said. “And Nicki Minaj and [her label] Young Money decided to skip Summer Jam. Because of an opinion, not a personal attack, nothing derogatory because she’s a woman.”
“That’s why music is so mediocre nowadays, because no one can give opinions. If you give an opinion, cats hate you, their crew skips your concert, they dis you on twitter, their boyfriends threaten to punch you in the face,” Rosenberg said. referencing Nicki’s boyfriend, Safaree “SB” Samuels, who tweeted a profanity-laden threat.
News that Nicki Minaj settles her feud with Hot 97 come after the rapper finished up a drama-filled season of American Idol, where the judge got into plenty of behind-the-scenes feuding with Mariah Carey.
